need help restoring firmware to 2.1

I have an unlocked 2G version 1.0.2 and want to update to 2.1 and jailbreak it. I tried to hold the shift key while selecting restore, but I only get "my documents" window to pop up. I have never updated this iPhone on my computer before so would there be other versions there? If i try to just udate it trys to load 2.2.1, will this version work to unlock/jailbreak?
Any help would be great!

You need to find a custom or standalone firmware and download it in order to use this method (hint: torrents).
