iPhone 2G volume very low problem

I have an iPhone 2G running 2.2 unlock. The phone's volume is very low you can barely hear it. If you use the headphone, then the volume is acceptable. Can someone show me how to adjust the volume without headphone?

When on a call, use the volume button to raise the volume.

Thanks for the reply. However, I tried that already. I just happen to notice that I still have original plastic cover over my phone and it covers the speaker. After I tear off the film, the phone works normal now.
