how to convert from .m4a to .m4r

Can any one tell me while creating ringtone how to change the AAC file extension from .m4a to .m4r

What operating system are you using? I'll assume windows. In Windows Explorer click the tools menu and then Folder options. Switch to the View tab. Uncheck the Hide extensions for known file types and then click OK. In windows Explorer right click on the file and select rename and then change the extension to .m4r

I did this with 1 of my songs and it shows up as a ringtone in iTunes, but it doesn't sync it to my iPhone...

make sure it's under 30 seconds or it still won't be usable as a ringtone and thus won't sync

thanks for the reply. I had a feeling that that might just be the problem, but thanks for confirming. Any suggestions on some free editing software to make the snip? I use a windows PC btw. P

If you have Nero 7 or 8 installed, use the wave editor.

Otherwise, you can download Audacity and use that, it's free open source soundfile editing software. Google it for a link to Sourceforge.

Also itunes has this ability built in. Select the track and get info, set the start and end time then right click on the file and select "convert to . . ."
