how to convert from .m4a to .m4r

What operating system are you using? I'll assume windows. In Windows Explorer click the tools menu and then Folder options. Switch to the View tab. Uncheck the Hide extensions for known file types and then click OK. In windows Explorer right click on the file and select rename and then change the extension to .m4r

thanks for the reply. I had a feeling that that might just be the problem, but thanks for confirming. Any suggestions on some free editing software to make the snip? I use a windows PC btw. P

If you have Nero 7 or 8 installed, use the wave editor.

Otherwise, you can download Audacity and use that, it's free open source soundfile editing software. Google it for a link to Sourceforge.

Also itunes has this ability built in. Select the track and get info, set the start and end time then right click on the file and select "convert to . . ."
