Does the iPhone aut switch to Edge?

Every othe phone I have had will switch to edge if 3g is not available, but the iPhone seems to just go into no service land. I then have to manually turn off 3g. Is this normal?

Mine seems to switch back and forth between 3G and Edge (with not problems) when 3G is not available.

Mine switches to edge is 3g doesn't have a good reception. I have never had no service with this phone yet.

What firmware are you running?

Whenever 3G is not available it will automatically switch to EDGE, unless your area don't have EDGE coverage. Bring it to a AT&T store and have your phone checked.

when I had Verizon, there was a number you could dial to update the tower info on your phone... Does AT&T have that?

Good question. Honestly that may be a cmda thing... I used to update that on all of my Sprint phones. Have yet to see anyone mention it while with AT&T. Anyone know for sure?
