Yup looks like it is coming to South Africa (Apple (South Africa) - iPhone). It should arrive during the second half of 2008. The carrier will be Vodafone (iPhone Country List : AAPLinvestors).

That sound's great! You got any idea if it'll be the equivalent of $199? or are the cell networks going to rip us off like they do with all mobiles?

Coz if they're going to do that, is it possible for me to just import a standard 3G iPhone form outside of SA?

I heard all around the world the iPhone 3G will cost $199 US. Because of exchange rates and such, prices in South Africa or any country will fluctuate.

Some carriers are offering even more subsidies on the iPhone or even free, depending on the type of monthly plan you choose. It might be a while before any information on the iPhone shows up on the Vodafone South Africa sight, so just keep checking. South Africa is not part of the initial launch so there is no telling when it will be available.
