I just went on the apple store to buy two, and it looks like they aren't taking pre-orders; they refer you to the brick and mortar stores and the at&t brick and mortar stores.

    Am I missing something?

    If I have the money.
I'll just have difficulty choosing what color. ;p

White would go great with my Macbook though.

The Apple home page isn't even updated yet. Maybe it will take some time to get the pre-ordering up and running.

White would get dirtier much faster. I would stick with black, more neutral color and less dirty!

    Yeah that's true.
I do have 30+ days to decide. I wish it was out today.

UK store sends you in silly loop: main iPhone 3G store page, click 'Find a store' > 'Where to buy' page, click 'Buy now' under the on-line store > back to main iPhone 3G store page.

Just changed. 'Find a store' sends you now to a page with links just to O2 and Carphone Warehouse. Available only from carriers? With in-store sign-up?

Looks like the price requires a NEW 2-year plan (probably upgraders will haver to extend by 2 years).

Yeah, I'm expecting to extend my plan. This always happens when I upgrade my phone, iPhone or not.

$199 or $299. No subsidies, final price.

I am the ONE person who said no thus far. I can't get 3g where I currently live, so I [think] I will get the 2.0 software and wait 9 months to get the 3g.

HOWEVER, I will likely not resist that $199 price tag come July!!!

The 3G will mostly boost sales in the European markets.

The $199 price will send sales through the roof here in N. America. If I lived in a 3G coverage area I would go ahead and make the switch, but it doesn't seem prudent to do it now.

On the Apple site it describes GPS as GPS - assisted. What does that mean, exactly?

I think it is because your location is coming off of wifi or the cell signal and it is not a true GPS, but I could be wrong.

You are wrong. There are several kinds of a-GPS, but essentially all of them augment true GPS (the look at the satellites kind) with info provided over the cell network. This makes them work better indoors, etc.
