Why, I am a iPhone owner, who is this thread for then?

iPhone owners who think certain features on the iPhone or lack of them (up to 10) suck...i.e. discontented iPhone owners - hence surur not actually making statements on his experience, but posting discontented posts from iPhone owners around the web.

Oalvarez, your off-topic posts are funny. Its almost as if you care about what goes on in my thread.
He's trying, but his posts are just paltry and sad.

More good news - for those iPhone owners that didn't read their Contract, this Wired article is pretty eye-opening:
Wired said:
The iPhone contract is unusual in bundling many separate agreements into a single contract. It comes in six parts, including agreements regarding AT&T's phone service, the iPhone software, the iTunes software, the use of Google Maps and of YouTube in addition to a user's consent that an e-mail from Apple "will satisfy any legal communication requirements."

Russian hackers found a built-in function which sends all data from an iPhone to a specified web-server. Contacts from a phonebook, SMS, recent calls, history of Safari browser - all your personal information can be stolen.
At present there is no additional information about this issue. Researches assume that this function either a debug feature or a built-in backdoor module for some governmental structures. Anyways this function can be used by a trojan-developers or activated by the AT&T.
I'm sure this is just an extension of the NSA program described at this link. When you sign on with AT&T, you sell your soul to the devil.

hmm

Ollie,

Crapping the thread....tsk tsk.

Why so angry?

There are many potential reasons from childhood that may account for it.

You can get help.

Jack, Mobile, lets prove a point. Lets stop participating in this thread to see what happens. I did for a few days and perhaps attributed to randomness, the thread turned quiet. You know, like children crying for attention, you leave them alone long enough and they'll cry themselves to sleep.

Thought my iPhone died (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=327035)

Thought my iPhone died

Just picked it up and pushed the bottom button and nothing happened.

I tried hitting every button and nothing, hooked it up to the wall charged, the computer, nothing.

Finally I just held the bottom button and the top button and finally a little silver apple showed up on the screen after about 5+ seconds of holding both buttons down. Then my custom backgound showed up with the slider and everything appears normal.....wierd though.

Battery was at half charge.

Has this happened to anyone?

Hasn't happened to me. Glad your iPhone is not dead, though.

Same thing happened to me...I had to look on the apple website to try and figure out how to restart it. Lets hope it doesn't happen EVER again. I was quite nervous.

badtzmaru 07-08-2007 12:54 PM

its possible you turned it off, or it got turned off accidentally. But who knows for sure! if it happens again, i would say you have a battery problem.

slider problem?

I was having problems unlocking my phone but just tried rebooting after reading this same forum. Held both top and bottom buttons for a few seconds and it seemed to work. Hopefully I won't encounter any further problems.

This happened the first day I got it. Just a simple reset and all has been well since.

siurpeeman 07-08-2007 04:33 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

it happened to me a few days ago. i thought the iphone ran out of battery, as it was close to being drained. but going home, plugging it in did nothing. panic set in, but i looked up how to do a hard reset, and it turned on. the iphone's been working fine since (fewer crashes even).

slvasf 07-13-2007 01:28 AM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

just happened to me too

thanks to this forum, I figured out how to get it going again, but it had been charging for quite a while (like hours) and it's only about 2/3 charged...any thoughts? Does it take up a lot of batt power to do the double-button routine?

attadj 07-13-2007 06:44 PM

Happened to me the other day while listening to the ipod. Just quit and appeared dead. Very concerning that this is happening. It wasn't warm to the touch when it happened either and the battery was charged.

Iphone comes back

I just had my Iphone appear to drop dead also but I followed the advice above and it came back to life. Has anyone else loss the large screen that displays the battery charging?

djhart 07-20-2007 04:26 PM

yes, mine died while the battery was charging. suddenly got black screen of death. but followed the advice on this thread to press top and bottom buttons together, which brought up the silver apple icon and then straight to home (no unlocking). what's interesting is that it was charging the whole time while black, because the battery was dead before I plugged it in, and then it went black, and since I could not get it on I just left it plugged in, and after I read this thread and got it back on less than an hour later, it was almost fully charged.

That's great and all, except that:
1) we already know it. People have been complaining about those issues for quite some time.
2) The Treo was never touted as the "5 years ahead of every other smartphone on the market be-all, end-all phone."
3) Your post is off-topic for this thread and trolling.

Best idea ever!

It's a win-win. You leave, maybe the thread will die (maybe not) either way, it's a win for us, so please, shoo...

Back on topic, I'm interested in the NSA thing. Will be interesting to see if more information comes out, right now it does sound a little paranoid, but interesting nonetheless.

This isn't about the Treo or how necessary it be updated yesterday, but about the iPhone.

Frankly, I think lots of iPhone posters (well at least one ;) ) don't want to admit it has issues because it would make them look like tools for being so adamant that it is near-perfect. That it isn't 5 years ahead, doesn't have bugs or isn't the perfect phone doesn't mean it isn't a cool device and a great option for some people. It's just some people here want to put it into perspective because the hype machine has made many think that everything else is obsolete and the iPhone trumps all other phones, which it simply doesn't.

Just for my own education, is this "5 years ahead" thing something someone actually said? (other than archie).
"Software that's 5-years ahead of what's on any other phone."
Steve Jobs
9:49am, MacWorld 2007
"We want to reinvent the phone."
10:04 am, ibid

and comparing to other smartphones, which some say Jobs never did:

"Today Apple is reinventing the phone. How does this stack up? Let's look at the competition..." Treo, BB, E62, Q... comparing mail, contacts, calendars, web... "Let's see the web, we tried to make it look as good as we could. And this is what you get." Comparing music..."
10:44am
"It let us create desktop class applications and networking, not the cripled stuff you find on most phones, these are real desktop applications."
9:51am

Well, Malatesta, yes, if I knew to start with the transcript. I had no idea where the quote came from. I assumed it was someone on the board.

wow. you guys spend a lot of time analyzing that stuff?

You don't have to analyze anything really - that was Jobsy's take home message and it's a fact that no one argues over - he said the iPhone was 5 yrs ahead of anything presently on the market, which it isn't. even if you consider the UI advanced in the average scheme of things it's not 5 yrs (not sure where he did his time measurements :D ). There have been larger advances in technology that that in less time.

No, it's certainly not 5 years ahead.

I'd say the average of its advances are about a year ahead, and it's certainly behind in lots of areas.

I guess we'll see where things are a year from now. One thing I know for sure is it will be awhile before Palm catches up if palm thinks foleo is a great innovation :)

You asked a fair question and I gave you a response and citation.

You then responded with
"wow. you guys spend a lot of time analyzing that stuff?"
Which certainly implied that
(a) I have no life
(b) I spent a lot of time researching that question

In other words, I took offense at the remark, though you might not have meant any harm.

I then responded with how I found your answer and that it didn't take long. I didn't mean to imply that you were lazy or should have known better, though I could have seen how it could be read that way, so sorry if you took it as such.

Just trying to help.

Back to the quote: their UI in terms of simplicity and elegance is certainly a year, maybe two ahead of anything else, though that certainly seems arbitrary. In terms of functions and capability, it's X years behind any current smartphone and even low-end devices like the RAZR.
