Unlocked Sprint phone?

Brand new here not even sure I'm posting in correcting place lol. I am current BB user and wanting to change to Iphone (have ipod touch already) My carrier is Sprint. If I buy an Iphone from and individual lets say off craigslist etc can iphone 3g be used for Sprint I guess if jail broken or unlocked. If I've read up correctly unlocked is what I'm looking for to be able to switch carriers correct? Thanks, Sharon

The 3G is GSM only - you won't be able to use it on Sprint, which is CDMA. Unlocking is something only for GSM carriers that use SIM cards.

Bottom line, if you want to stay on Sprint, you either need to purchase a Sprint phone on Craigslist/eBay, or go to Apple to buy a factory unlocked phone that you can activate on Sprint or then use on any GSM network.
