iPhone 3G from 3.1.2 to 4.1?

I still have my iPhone 3G on 3.1.2 because I was avoiding the performance problems with 4.0 on a 3G. Can anyone compare the performance of the 3G between 3.1.2 and 4.1? Can I upgrade to 4.1 now without crippling my iPhone 3G?

iPhone 3G

i was originally on 3.1.2 and went to 4.0 & 4.0.1 and i gotta tell ya, i was about to throw this POS off the tallest building i could find..

went back to 3.1.2 then upgraded to 4.1 and i can honestly say the performance is just as good as 3.1.2, if not better

one thing i did to help eliminate any questions was Restore as New, kind of hassle but it only makes sense to start clean and go from there. make sure to backup everything first

hope this helps

My brother upgraded his 3G to 4.0.1 and hated life...he reverted back and then yesterday, upgraded to 4.1 and said that, while not AS bad as the previous update, the phone still performed very poorly considering the 3.1.2 performance (with which he had zero trouble and no laggy performance issues).

I hate to say it, because the 3G isnt exactly "old", but it seems that it just cant keep up with the new updates for whatever reason.

Also, you hear all of the problems with the iPhone when upgrading to the 4os, but does that also apply to the iTouch or is it just the iPhone 3G?

128 gb of RAM is one reason

Who knows man, prob filled with crap apps and stuff, pictures, etc...i did see first hand how badly it performed though, it took 20-30sec. to pull up a text message sometimes.

4.1 performance is fine

I did the upgrade from 3.2.1 to 4.1 on my 3G over the weekend and my performance on 4.1 is fine. (I restored as a new iPhone during the update).

Over the weekend i thought about this thread while having lunch with my brother, so i messed with his phone and it seems to be working alot more fluidly now, it still seems a bit laggy, but he also has ALOT of stuff on it and runs bluetooth constantly...i have no idea if those things should case the slight lag in performance but its no where near as bad as the other 4.0.1 update.
