Hey just been reading for 30min and it looks like it can be done but im just looking for some clarification. Im on 3.0.1 firmware currently and f0recast says im...
    Jailbreakable: Yes (Always)
    Unlockable: Yes (Using Ultrasn0w)
    Tethered: No

I have read there is a new app by the Dev team "Spirit" and this can jailbreak the new 3.1.3 but cannot unlock (which doesnt bother me).

When I run spirit it says Iphone 3G 3.0.1 is not supported. Do I have to do the following...

    A. Update to either 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 using Itunes
    B. Run spirit

Or do I have to make a custom firmware like with Sn0wbreeze.

Any help would be appreciated guys

If you want to run Spirit, you need to be on 3.1.3.

If you just update to 3.1.2 you can use blackra1n to jailbreak.

Since you don't need to unlock, you do NOT need a custom firmware.

Thanks for the prompt reply big9erfan. Am I losing any functionality by updating to 3.1.3 via itunes? as recently I was told my Iphone is good as it is hasn't had the baseband updated.

The baseband only matters if you need to unlock it has nothing to do with Jailbreak (JB) so you will have no problems updating to 3.1.3 then using spirit to JB. Let us know how it goes?

As Ipheuria said, the only thing you'll "lose" is the ability to unlock.

Another thing guys I'm needing to send my iPhone back for repair on the 15th as it has a problem going silent when I flick the swith, it just vibrates on and off all day when the switch is flicked down. Can I unjailbreak the phone ready for it's return? Thanks

You have to restore as a new device to erase any signs of a jailbreak.
