    Hello,

I signed up for a iPhone 3g 18 month contract in March when I first turned 18 anyway I recently broke that phone in my local nightclub so I managed to purchase a second hand iPhone 3g 16gb , I took the pay monthly sim from my old iPhone and tried it in this second hand iPhone but the phone won't activate. I left it for 4 hours to no avail I went into the 02 shop and they couldn't understand why the phone wouldn't activate which was a great help. The previous owner did said it was working before he tried to unlock it I've tried full restore , Network restore and still nothing.

Does anyone know why this phone won't activate I'm really desperate for this as I'm going away soon?

    Thanks

Sounds like a broken phone and you figured out why it was for sale.

I dont know much about the O2 network but I know here on AT&T's network your sim must be set up for an Iphone unless you hacktivate the iphone .

This would be my guess as well. Probably needs to be unlocked. Who knows what network it was meant for.

Not the point you don't expect to spend money on a phone to find out its broken 0.o.

It is definitely a 02 phone as I checked. How much would Apple charge if I went into an Apple shop for repair

If the previous owner tried to unlock it and damaged it there is a good chance Apple will not touch it.

It could be blacklisted. You should try hacktivating before taking it to Apple, make sure that you do a hard restore before visiting an apple store and they will never know.

Hackivation is simply activating the phone without using iTunes, which is the normal way to activate a iPhone.

Does anyone have a good tutorial to hacktivate , When you do the process I presume you don't have a sim card in there do you?
