There is not a forum for the original iPhone so I chose the closest.

My iPhone original 8gb will not backup to iTunes. I choose to set a password and can not even set a password. The phone has never been backed up to this computer.

It could be that the version of iTunes that you're using is not compatible with your iPhone since that device was many iOS's ago.

Did you try the original ID? Why do you need to change the ID? What does it ask you to do?

Why can't you use the original password? You did say it was your old phone. Did you not have an account on it?

If you previously made a backup of a more recent iDevice, try using the password you used for that instead. It should work.

No original password because I am asked to set up a password.

Ok, I assume that's in iTunes. Restart your computer and try again.

So at some point, you wiped the phone of the previous OS and account. Why can't you still use the same account that was on it originally?

Never erased the phone. I have no idea why the original account would not work.
