By looking at your topic name im assuming you have the original iPhone and upgraded to iPhone 4.

If that's the case just go to settings and go to erase and reset all data it will completely wipe your iPhone.

I've seen a lot of forums saying that the iPhone can be used on the prepaid sidekick plan if the application on the iPhone is changed to the application on sidekick phones. Can I change the application on the iPhone? If not, what can I do to use the sidekick plan on the iPhone?

I have never heard of such a thing however the original iPhone will work on a go phone plan without problem.

Greenhorn its very easy. delete all file and personal data after shifted it into your new phone
