Trade in for a 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max

I traded in my 12 Pro Max when I purchased my 13 Pro Max. I did the same when I ordered my wife’s 13 Pro, traded in her 12 Pro. Both were paid in full on my credit card. I just checked on my order summary on the Apple Store APP that I will be receiving an Apple gift card. I thought when I paired in full that I would be receiving a refund? That is what has happened in past years, I traded in my iPhone and received a refund.

Anyone else see that that they are receiving a gift card instead of a refund?
