This topic probably came across many times before, but many people ( including myself) are still confused as to what is the best way to charge your battery and keep it in healthy condition for as long as possible.

In the table below I'm going to share my findings with you (I have a 12 Pro Max since 1 week now)

    • Keep in mind I try and let my battery NOT drop below 20%, so I always plug in my iPhone when the battery hits 20% (or slightly above)

    • I ALWAYS use original cable charging, so no wireless-charging, MagSafe or anything else
    *******

    [ Default 5W charging ] [ 10W charging ]

    33% charged after 30min / 47% charged after 30min
    47% charged after 1h / 75% charged after 1h
    60% charged after 1h 30min / 91% charged after 1h 30min
    73% charged after 2h / 97% charged after 2h
    85% charged after 2h 30min
    95% charged after 3h
    97% charged after 3h 30min
    ------- -------

    Time needed to reach 80%: 2h 15min / Time needed to reach 80%: 1h 15min
    Time needed to reach 100%: 3h 30min / Time needed to reach 100%: 2h
    *******

    Now I always read contradictory stories;

    - Many people say it's best to keep your battery between 20%-80%, where some say it doesn't matter.

    - Others say (for health sake, NOT talking about the time it takes) it's best to use a charger with as low voltage as possible...

Now I would like to hear from you, what's YOUR opinion about battery charging, and keeping its health in optimal condition?
Is it best to stay between 20%-80%, and to use low voltage charging or something else?

I’ve heard the 20%-80% theory but I tend to keep my phone charged above 80% and certainly don’t often let it get below 50%. I’m quite confident the battery will be just fine for as long as I’m likely to have the device which is 8-12 months at most.

I do notice that sometimes with wireless charging the phone does get hot and can’t imagine that’s healthy for it.

Before my current 12PM I had an 11 PM for about 13 months. I used a Samsung Fast Wireless Charger, an iPad charger and the charger that came in the box. I kept the phone fully charged as much as possible. I never let it get below about 70% and kept it in the 90s most of the time. When I sent it back to ATT the battery health was at 99% after 13 months of continuous use.

The point is, keep it as charged up as possible as much as possible. Letting it go down to 20% and then charging back to 100 will wear the battery out faster.

My battery level rarely dips below 40% and I tend to charge my phone overnight. I’ve done that for YEARS and my battery life has maintained itself quite well. After purchasing my iPhone 12 Pro, I checked the battery health of my iPhone 11 Pro Max after a years worth of use and if I recall correctly, it was at 98%.

I kinda just charge when I feel that I need to throughout the course of the day. But I make sure to charge my phone overnight with nothing more than the 5W charging brick. I see no reason to heat up the battery with a fast charger when I’m going to be asleep for six hours.

The less heat you can avoid on the battery, the better.

I charge mine through the night, and top it off for about half an hour during the evening if I think it won’t last until bedtime.
Then I go to bed and plug it in until I’m awake again.

With the 12 Pro Max I’ve found that I use 130% of charge on average.

I don’t pay any attention to those articles and theories about optimal charging percentages and so, because frankly, nobody knows for sure. It’s all theories and not facts.

Meh, I don't pay attention or try to worry about these things. I charge my Pro Max over night while sleeping and sometimes charge while I'm driving and never had issues with my battery going bad quickly. My 11 Pro I've had since release and battery health is currently at 98%.

Does any1 know if there's an app that lets you know when charging reaches 80%??
    (would be handy)

Do you reallyneed to be concerned given that iPhones automatically optimize battery life my controlling battery charge levels? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210512.

If the battery gets compromised, you can replace it or have it replaced. I haven’t worked about charging and my battery was still at 100% on the iPhone X I just parted with after a couple of years.

    I feel the same way.

I charge overnight on my nomad wireless charger. Sometimes I let the phone run two days before charging. I can normally get 2 days out of 1 charge but the ending charge level would be 10%

Reason why I'm a little concerned is because my previous iPhone XS's battery dropped from 100% to 91% in only a year!
    (huge degradation in my opinion)

    • I charged it with a 18W charger, and I definitely don't want to ruin my new 12 Pro Max battery this time around...
