Shipping vs pickup (with trade in)

For those that have traded in their old iPhones to Apple, what was the easier process or how did your process go versus shipping to your house or scheduling an appointment for in-store pick up. Seems to me trade in with store pick up would be easier than sending it in and waiting for your credits but I always worry with in store pick up late around 4-5 pm that your pre order won’t be there any advice/experiences would be helpful

On the same boat with you but I’m leaning towards store pickup with trade in.

I've always done store trade in when exchanging my stuff. I've had warranty replacements get temporarily lost in the shuffle (through T-Mobile though, not Apple). Plus it gives me the excuse to go to one of my favorite coffee shops in the same area of town as my closest Apple store. Packing up a phone and going to the post office/UPS doesn't give me the same motivation.

I did a pick up order for the iPhone XS Max a year ago and I had no problems. I set up the appointment online, and walked in and was out in like 30.

Yea I pre ordered but it didn't give me the option to do the trade in person since I am already doing an in store pick up. For that reason, I am going to cancel my pre order when I can (it's not allowing me too now) and try my chances on launch day. Unless you guys think I can call costumer support and ask can I just do the trade in person when I pick up?

Your phone will be there. If you pick a time and make the appt and its set on the date it will be there lol. Its reserved fro you and that time they wont just sell it to someone else.

I got my pre order in set to pick up on launch day with my trade in, but like above poster said it says it’s sending me a trade in kit for some reason shouldn’t I able to just give my trade to them in person when I’m there picking up my new iPhone?

I preordered the x max last year and it tries to charge me the full amount but when i went in for my pick up they adjusted then and there

I got the same thing, it automatically added that when I said I had a phone to trade in and picked in-store pick up. Kind of disappointed with that, but what can you do?

Looks like they're using a 3rd party to handle trade-ins. That's why you prolly can't trade-in in store.

So apple is not doing in store trade in's anymore? Cause I am planning to cancel my pre order and just try my luck launch day/ weekend and do a in person trade if I get lucky. I may have to call costumer support but they are slammed. I wish I had know this before pre ordering SMH.

So I checked apples website and it looks like they are doing trade in but only offering 460 for an iphone XS (in good condition) and the third party one is offering 500. But the third party one also states some of the credit might be on a apple gift card instead of going to your payment method. This is too much LOL

So after waiting for 25 mins on the phone I spoke to an apple specialist and they said I could still do the trade in, when I pick up the phone next Friday. So for others that were wondering you can bring your phone in and do in the store trade. Not sure why it's being weird...

This makes me happy!!! Not really worried either way. Just seems like a wired process to send it through the FedEx/Ups (always worried about it making) instead of handing to the people that are taking it anyway.

Yea I hope the guy was telling the truth cause I will be kinda be mad if that isn't the case next friday evening when I pick up my phone.

Pre-ordered mine for store pick up with trade in at the store. I think this is better than sending it.

I'm going to call AT&T on Wednesday next week and find out which stores will have the 11 Pro Max variant I want, then go there and trade in my current Samsung Galaxy S10+ for the Pro Max.

I honestly wish I hadn't traded in my iPhone X for the Samsung back in March. Worst decision ever. I can't wait to be back in the iPhone fold.
