Extra imessage icon

Once in a while I see 2 imessage icons on my iPad 6 dock. One of them shows an iphone symbol next to it. When I click on it, it goes away. What does this mean?

It means that you’re near another iOS device or a macOS, it’s for continuity. You can continue what you were doing on a device on another one

That is rather curious! Have you tried a forced restart? That might help alleviate this issue.

It’s not an issue but a feature of iOS and MacOS devices. It allows for continuity. If for example you start to write an email on your iPhone, on you ipad or your MacBook you’ll get a popup icon of the mail application, so you can click on it and continue writing your email on it

You see I already have the mail app open on my MBP, but when I open the mail app on my iPhone, this icon appears. This is normal.
