Why is my message screen blank?

Mail or iMessage? Do you have your iPad configured to received mail or iMessage? Are you receiving them on your phone without issue?

Welcome to iMore! Please provide some additional detail as @mumfoau mentioned in the post above mine.
One rule of thumb to always use when things are bugging out: Reset your device by holding the power button and home button down simultaneously until you see the Apple boot logo. Then take another look at your "message" screen to see if the hard reset fixed the problem.
