Can I duplicate a document in iOS and save it in PDF so I can work on it with pencil?

Is there a way to edit a document on my iPad other then make a copy of the document and save it in PDF on my Mac so I can edit the document with pencil?

Yes. Install an app like Adobe Acrobat, open the pdf file with it, and then select any of the editing tools therein. If I misunderstood what you’re asking, my apologies.

Just to be clear, this won't work with an Apple Pencil unless you have an iPad Pro. The Apple Pencil is not compatible with the 2017 (5th Gen) iPad.
