I-Pad issue

I am not sure which version it is, but I believe it is an early one (30 pin charging connector). My girlfriend cannot remember her master password to get onto it. How does she go about getting on it, maybe change passwords too?

Unfortunately she will need to come up with the password. There is no other way. Once she remembers it, changing the password is simply done in the Settings.
