iPad 3 intrusive keyboard, how can I fix?

iPad 3 intrusive keyboard

I don't know if I pressed a wrong setting, but since a recent update, my keyboard is in the way of my seeing any text. In other words, I can't see what I'm typing, whether on portrait or landscape mode. The bottom of the keyboard is elevated about 1-1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the screen.

Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

It's me that posted the question, apparently as a guest. Anyhow, forgot to mention that I did a complete factory reset which made no difference.
