Split keyboard on iPad

Is this an update? Started this morning and I'm not a fan. Any way to fix this?

just pinch the sides together on the screen and it'll go back to normal

This is not a new thing... I believe it came with iOS 5 last fall... using your thumbs on the iPad in portrait mode, pull apart to split the keyboard. Push 'em together to put the keyboard back together again...

...or just hold down the keyboard button (lower right) and select from those options.

WOW. didn't know about that one. Next thing you know you'll be able to take a screen shot by pushing on the home button while holding down the power button... What a great device...
