Updating to ios 5

itunes will not sync my ipad so that I can update to ios5. itunes keeps coming up as my son's account. It recognizes my ipad but when it tries to update it tells me that my ipad will be erased and my son's info will be installed. How can I get itunes to sync to my ipad?

Have you tried logging out of your son's account and logging in with your own?

(Has this iPad ever been connected to this computer?)

No I have not, not very familiar with how this all works, didn't know you have to log out. I know I had an account for my ipod but could not find it as my son's account kept coming up when I restarted i tunes. Guess I sound pretty dumb. I will try to log him out and log myself in. Yes I set up the ipad on my home computer.
