I have the iPad 2 and so far I've found iOS 5.0 to be more stable on it. Safari seems faster with no crashes. Before the update it would crash at least once a day, which was very annoying.
Major headaches here since iOS5. No matter what app I'm working in, my iPad crashes back to the home page every 5-10 minutes. Not so much on my iPhone, though.
just upgraded to 5.0.1. im hoping this will be better for the original ipad, even though i know the main focus of the update was battery life.
is the crashing apps situation getting better for anyone with the update?
I've not had any issues since the 5.0 upgrade, but two other iPad users in our office were plagued with frequent random crashes. The crashing seemed to be less frequent when one of them deleted and recreated his Exchange mail account, and it pretty much stopped completely when he just deleted the Exchange account. That might be worth trying.
I have a ipad 1st gen and only time I have issues is when I have iHeart Radio playing in the background. As long as it is not running then usually pretty smooth. I want to update to 5.0.1 to get my gestures back but until Un-Tethered JB is out I am hanging with 5.0.
Add me to the list. My hubby watched safari crash 5 times in about 3 minutes and told me I'd better take it in. I mentioned I'd seen a thread about it on TiPb. This forum saves me countless money in gas!
my wife's iPad 1 crashes all the time on Safari too since upgrading to iOS5. I'm getting her an iPhone4s for xmas and hope it doesn't have the same issue or she's going to tell me she wants to go back to android. (We're a universal family, Love Apple/Android equally)
I have found a no of people facing similar problem but here are some solutions forums.techarena.in/portable-devices/1446619.htm that you all can try out.
Tried hard reset and didn't fix anything my my wife's iPad1. Still crashes safari all the time. She's close to throwing the iPad at me because I upgraded to iOS5 telling her it would be a lot better. lol. opps
That's just the problem with having an older device. I try and keep my open apps to a minimum and only have 2-3 tabs open in Safari at a time. My iPad 1 runs pretty smooth following this philosophy and it saves me from spending another $600.
iOS 5.1.1 helped the situation. Safari doesn't crashed after opening 3-4 tabs with pretty heavy sites like CNN, iMore, etc. highly recommend the OS upgrade.

I never had much issue with my Original iPad on iOS 5.0. But now my girlfriend uses it the update didn't hurt cause she never complains and she never clears the cookies and seems to not know how to close a window. I swear every time I pick hers up she has 6-8 windows open. If it was not working right I would hear it.
