The way I work it is I typically have to sell something to in order to buy something new. I sold the Nook for the first iPad. I am sell my first iPad to buy the iPad2. Don't ask what I had to do to buy the Nook.

I think you should just take her to the store and agree to get her one if she'll let you get one. :D There is no way she could resist that, right?

photo slideshow

I plan to appease my wife by keeping a photo slideshow running (with some of her favorite pix) when I'm not using it.
Plus I won't be hurrying her up to get off the main PC when I just need to check a couple websites.
It also helps that it's been a while since my last splurge.

Everyone has something they are into a hobby, an interest. So just tell her that you would love to share each others interests and next month she will spend an equal amount on her interest while you share in it with her. You could also have done pre-planning and surprised her a month ago on say Valentines, see Steve was factoring that into the launch date equation, with a weekend away and splurged equal to half the cost you're about to spend. She would be in such good spirits a month later she would be like he deserves it :D

Im with you on this one. The only thing hesitating me to buy one is the almighty row afterwards which will probably end with her shouting "FINE! do want you want!"

However, some research on the joint bank account has shown she has spent quite abit on shopping recently. Maybe I can use that as ammo!

Sounds like what my wife would say with one exception....." Well, since you are getting one then so am I !!!! " She is awesome.:)

At the end of the day, it's ALWAYS better (or less bad) to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission. :D
This made me giggle!!

Fortunately my husband and I are both Apple people, I'm actually worse than him...we both work, we both make money, we both spend it, you only live once!

I don't know how many other computers you have in your home, if only 1, you could try explaining how you can both be surfing the web at the same time..

Or give her the hard sell on how portable the iPad it..

Or how awesome it is as a book reader, interactive magazines, etc

Or how it's awesome for note taking in meetings..

That's all I got for ya, good luck!

It is for this reason alone that, apart from our joint accounts, my wife and I each have our own "fun money" accounts. I love to buy gadgets and she loves clothes and shoes. As long as I'm spending from my personal account, there is nothing she can say about it.

This is what my husband and I do as well......Unfortunately, for hubby, he's a spender, but fortunately for me, I'm a saver.....which is how I'm getting an Ipad, and poor hubby has no money saved up. :p

This was easy for me. While I do not have a wife, I do have someone who loves to criticize my spending habits. I've always set aside my tax return for "Fun Money." This year I knew I wanted a new tablet. Initially I was eyeballing the XOOM, but after get my Verizon iPhone the iPad was a no brainer. The only concession I had to make was that I would wait until I got the AC in my car fixed then I could buy an iPad. I didn't get to order right away, but that actually removed the "impulse" out of the purchase. So while I may not have it until next month, I was able to purchase it without it causing trouble.

Tell her that you'll take up golf or cycling if she won't let you have an iPad and explain the expense of quality clubs, green fees, or a new bike and clothes, time away from doing chores, etc. The iPad is much less expensive. Of course, if you already do those things... :)
