Speakers not working for certain things

I've had the iPad for a couple of months, and the speakers have worked well except for once when I had to restart the iPad after hooking it up to a monitor. However, now all of the sounds are turned on under general settings, but I don't hear them. In addition, the Piano app cannot be heard except thru headphones. I completely restored the iPad software and firmware, but it didn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Well, while I had checked that the volume was turned up, and it showed that way on the screen, apparently I had pushed the mute button, which used to be the screen lock button. I would have thought that would mute everything, but it doesn't, so that's why I didn't think that was the problem. In any event, the problem is now solved.
