Received my 3G iPad. Being Friday, I headed to my vacation getaway. Unfortunately, coverage here is EVDO. I'm finding that accessing the App Store, surfing the web and opening programs like Weatherbug is painfully slow. Much slower than my iPhone. Do I have a defective iPad?

You mean Edge? Of course that's painfully slow. And on the ipad, probably slower due to the fact that your downloading more data...full webpages, etc.

I can't imagine using this device with EDGE only. It's a data beast and 3G is a must.

No, it's going to be slow because EDGE sucks. Is there an iPad version of Opera?
Maybe use the iPhone version of Opera if you need to browse quickly or something? Cause it compresses on their servers and loads faster.

EDGE only on the iPad in my opinion would be a waste. Better off going Wi-Fi only.

Not to be a smart ***, but while AT&T cover 97% of the US population, a very significant portion live in EDGE only areas. Fortunately, I travel quite a bit and will be able to take advantage of 3G at those times.

Perhaps you should look at a mifi or phone with tethering with a different carrier.
