How do I transfer pictures from a memory stick to the iPad pro

I bought a connector from the iPad to a usb port. Now how do I get the iPad to recognize it?

Are you talking of the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter?
If so it should be as simple as once you plug the adapter into the Lightning port, the second you insert a USB stick into the USB female end, providing you have photos on the USB stick it will then automatically open the Photos app and display all the photos on the stick.
