Playback volume ok, but app volume low!

Ok, purchased the iPad pro today. Still not sure what to make of it, however. My first question is to do with app volume.

Playback volume is great say like on YouTube or games etc, but the volume is very low on app alerts like email. I have checked all of the volume settings and I'm not sure if I'm missing something here. After the fantastic sound I have from media, I'm a bit disappointed because the email and text alert volume seems to be poor in comparison.
