I think Apple realizes that the iPhone 6 plus is going to eat at some of the Mini market. With that I think they invested in the iPad Air 2 and the new Phones this year.

I am so glad I got my 64 gig iPad mini 2 last year. I had the 32 gig on order, but then changed my mind and bought the 64 gig locally and returned the 32 gig at the Apple Store.

One of the reasons I always go for maximum storage is that they do away with storage options later. When I resell older devices, and have the discontinued capacity, it can fetch more bucks than the standard offerings.
