Brand new iPad mini 64gb with AT&T and retina.
Try typing in any app (email, text, notes, etc) on a new line the following:
822
The second 2 cannot be typed on the first attempt. No matter how accurate your finger is, it will use an adjacent key. Usually 3. When you backspace to correct it, it will work fine.
Don't correct it and leave the error, and then put a zero at the end like this:
8230
(The 3 was supposed to be a 2).
After you type the 0, backspace to fix the 3 into a 2, and then type the 0 again. The 0 will never work either.
How did I find this? My address is 8220, and I can never type it correctly to begin a new line.

Ok fair enough, but one question to all of you just to be sure.
This does not happen on my iPhone or full size iPad. Did you guys actually try it on an iPad min with retina?

Ok, this is the only combination of numbers that this happens for me. I am thinking maybe it is because my house number is 8220.
Can one of you guys try your house number? Maybe some software glitch.
Either way, I am going to apple today. I will update the thread.

Ok, I just went to the apple store. They replaced it with a brand new one.
I got home, opened it up, and it does the exact same thing!
So now I reset and erase the whole thing. Problem is gone, however, I this time, I did not yet set up my account iCloud, etc.
Once I add my iCloud account, this problem starts happening.
I delete the iCloud account from the ipad, and it works again.

I added and deleted my iCloud account a couple of times, and now problem is fixed.

That's really weird! I just tried on my rMini & I had no issues. Glad your problem is solved!!

Next time before returning an iPad, try restoring it and then setting it up as new without syncing any apps. If the problem remains, there is something wrong with the iPad.

Well, after further checking into this, I found the real problem.
The shortcuts were screwing this up. I had a shortcut that entered my street address. After I did what I wrote in my previous post, all my shortcuts stopped working, and I coundlt add or change any. So I erased the entire iPad again,and of course the problem came back again, I looked at the shortcuts and found my street address shortcut. I deleted it, and now the problem is really solved.
