Contacts app crashing. How to fix it?

iPad Mini 3 running iOS 9.02. i have 24 GB free. Contacts app opens, but list is blank, then immediately goes to home screen. Have done a soft reset, deleted most recent apps, turned off bluetooth, no effect. What should I do next? (Scared to do a factory reset.) I saw a post that says "sign out of iCloud on your device and let it remove the info. Are "cards" the addresses?

Cards usually refers to the apps in the switcher. You can try closing the contacts from there (swipe up). But you can also try that sign out/in method as well.

Are your contacts associated with an email account? If so, delete the account from your iPad, reboot it, and then reconfigure the email account the contacts therein should sync to your device.
