Help: Is it okay to charge iPad Mini retina with an iPhone 5 adapter?

My daughter accidentally plugged in her new retina iPad mini to charge on her iPhone 5 adapter. Will this damage the retina iPad mini?

It wont damage your iPad mini. The iPhone charger will charge an iPad but at about half the rate of the charger that is supplied with the iPad. Lithium ion battery charging is managed inside of the device (i.e.iPad or iPhone) based on the state of charge and the voltage profile during charge.
