Why can't my son get the iPad Air to charge?

my son cant charge ipad air!

His battery is totally flat he plugs in charger battery sign comes on then goes off,then apple logo shows and goes off,then continually repeats but does not charge,can anyone help ?

Make sure to use the supplied charger and cable - or "Made for I" certified 3rd party charger and cable... try a different cable and charger.

If possible, I'd take it in to a nearby Apple Store to have it inspected.
