I've just gotten an iPad Air to use for taking notes in my classes. I will be using Notability to annotate pdf notes, therefore I had to buy a stylus to get a better handwriting. I bought the Adonit Jot Pro from the store. However, I was told by the staff that the stylus does not respond well to screen protectors, so I decided not to get one.

My question is: Is it safe enough to use the ipad without screen protector?

I'm also using the Apple Smart Case.

If you are someone who is not clumsy with their products then I would say it's not necessary. I don't use screen protectors on any of my devices and have never broken my screens. If you feel like you really need to have a screen protector then I'm sure there are protectors out there that work with styluses.

I'm not hard on my devices, I take really great care of them. I still use a screen protector just for the peace of mind though. You should be fine if you aren't hard on it

It all depends on you. I always use them. I have the Zagg glass on all my devices. It really personal choice.

You don't NEED one, but after I have scratched a few devices and ruined some as well I always throw one on. Look into tempered glass protectors... Feel almost like the real screen

I think i'm gonna go without a screen protector on iPad Mini with Retina Display for about a week and see how it goes. I know this is very subjective and I have read both sides. While it feels nice to the touch without the screen protector but on the other hand, I'm always afraid it will get scratched. :/

I don't. I'll take my chances. My AC+ deductible is $49. Most quality screen protectors is about the same. I've yet to ever scratch a iPad screen.

Well looks like going without a screen protector for me didn't last one day. So I decided to give the screen protector another chance. And I said to my self, this will be the last time and if all else fails, I'm going to go without a screen protector as a last resort. I purchased a Zagg Glass and have successfully installed on my ipad mini retina without any issue and perfectly aligned.

For what it's worth, I'd rather protect my device than having scratches, since I HATE having scratches on my device. Maybe I'm just paranoid not having a screen protector.

I don't use one. I have a smart case on it. It's not like my phone that I will put in my pocket. I take my chances with the ipad.

I take my iPad everywhere with me. In backpacks, purses, in my car, I use it outdoors all the time, and it's the first thing I open in the morning while having coffee. So for me, Smart case + screen protector are standard.

I've had my air for 4 months. I wasn't using a cover and it's been ok but decided to put one on last week just in case. I have insurance but I just didn't feel good about it being bare.

I have one on and a Smart Cover and use styluses some. The cover and protector definitely help, I dropped it once with it flipping out of my hand, the cover took most of the impact and then slid off off it so the screen protector protected it after that. In the end I much rather prefer using a keyboard with it or just typing with the iPad verticle kind of like texting. Plus it's much easier on the air than previous iPad models.

I highly recommend it. My smart cover have a lot of stuff on it (dust whatever) and over time have created marks on my screen protector. I am sure glad that i've had mine on since day 1!
