As a new owner of an iPad Air, I wanted to take it through the paces, not re-charging it until I had to, to see how the battery worked. I offer this as one use-case to consider. In all, I was very pleased as I got almost 4 full days without a charge, using it for about 3-4 hours of active use a day. My usage was reading, email, browsing, radio streaming, using a few apps - no games, and for this test I didn't happen to play any videos.

Anyway - I thought this was pretty good. I could have probably gotten another 6-8 hours out of it, but I need a full charge for work today! FYI for your consideration.

PS - everything was turned on too - background app refresh, bluetooth, etc. etc.

The battery life on the iPad Air is doing even better after the 3rd full charge. I have used it for 8 hours and still have 50% left.

I am glad to see that battery life is so awesome. I am in the process of charging mine for the first time after letting it almost die before charging it. How long is it taking your iPad Air to charge from close to 0% to 100%?

I think i could still go for another hour or do but didn't want to let the battery die completely, so here it is at 9%

for people with great battery life, when you took it out of the box, did you use it and drain it, or did you charge it to 100% right away?

I used it it out of the box (who could resist) and then charged it later that day to 100% and then ran the battery down all the way.

Fairly light usage here. But had to post this, which seems crazy to me.

Have hit ten hours' usage, and have 66% battery left.

I received my iPad air on Friday. Charged it right out of the box to 100% and been playing with it ever since. I don't do a lot of gaming. But I did download a whole lot of apps, read, and watch many YouTube videos. The battery life has completely got me floored. Since I've been using this a lot, my iPhone battery has also been lasting much longer. So it's a definite win win. I love this thing !!!

Hey guys just thought I should show my battery life too. I would've let it die down some more since I was thinking I was actually going to get 22+ hours or something but I had to study for exams all day and didn't want to be with a dead iPad.

A few battery tips garnered from many places. First check out battery university to better understand Li batteries. Also since most of us upgrade to new devices after two to three years or sooner, most any way you decide to charge and use your device will give you a usable lifespan. So no need to get OCD over your battery.

The batteries are rated for about 500 100% discharges and still have 70-80% of full capacity. Note that five 20% discharges equal one 100%. Also, as with all manufactured items, a certain percentage will get a bad battery and or device. No manufacturing process is 100% perfect all the time. If you get a bad one, go to Apple Store and see what they will do for you.

Li battery chemistry hates heat. So avoid high temperature situations as much as possible. If your device gets hot during charging or intensive processor use, try to allow contact with cooler surfaces to draw away heat when in these situations. Never leave your device in a hot car, even turned off.

Li batteries will fail if overcharged or if allowed to fall below a threshold voltage. Use only Apple chargers and cords as the device in conjunction with these is designed to prevent over and undercharge conditions. You may be lucky and use third party charger/cords without incident, but you really want to risk hundreds of dollars to save twenty bucks?

If you want to be kind to your battery, consider usually charging when you reach 30% and ending charge at 80%. This is a sweet spot for the chemistry of Li batteries. When it's convenient, and I reach 30-40% I connect the charger for short time, like 30 minutes and take it back into low 80% range. Of course when I know I need it due being on the go, I charge to 100%. I may be deluding myself, but have noticed increase in duration since I got my iPhone and iPad following this protocol. About very six weeks I will drain to 10% and charge to 100% to recalibrate the percent meter. Doesn't do anything for battery, just adjusts the range of the meter to improve accuracy.

I leave you with this to ponder. Toyota in their Prius Hybrid has the Li battery pack cycle between 60% low and 80% high. Since the battery pack is $10,000 and needs to last the life of car, five years plus. They use this conservative charge cycle programmed into the controller to maximize battery longevity.

Enjoy your devices, and don't be too stressed over your battery.

I have had my iPad Air for a little over two weeks (this is my first iPad!). I am not seeing the incredible battery life span as some of you. Should I go to Apple?

    Thanks!

That's within normal battery life ranges. I think Apple says 10 hours. So I doubt they would do anything if you took it to them.

You (we) tend to use new devices much more than devices we've had for a while. Hence the difference. Yours is perfectly okay.

Hey guys....I received an iPad Air for Christmas and am totally loving it...except for one issue. I was all set to post a picture of my battery usage once at 5% but the usage went from the actual time of use to these little dashes. Which isn't a huge problem but why did the battery reset before I started charging?

And then...I put my Air on the charger and it seemed to take FOREVER to charge. This is with me using the lightning cable and wall adapter that came in the box. And furthermore...it never really fully charges. It got to 99%...then 100% but still with the lightning bolt next to it. Closed my Smart Cover....checked again...it's back at 99%. I kept I to the charger for about 30 more minutes with the same 99%/100% situation. Has anyone had experience with this or have a fix? I hope someone can read through my ramble and help out. Night night and thanks 😁
