If the iPad Air 2 is discontinued, why is it still receiving updates?

Re: Air 2 discontinud?

What do you mean "pushing updates"? iOS devices get updates well beyond their discontinuation.

Exactly this. iPhone 5s is still supported by iOS 11 and it was released in 2013. The original iPad Air is also compatible with iOS 11.

Re: Air 2 discontinud?

The iPad Air 2 was discontinued over a year ago, when the 5th Gen iPad (2017) was released. It will continue to get iOS updates for a few years -- any iPad that could run iOS 11 is going to be updated to iOS 12, and that includes several models discontinued a few years before the iPad Air 2.

Re: Air 2 discontinud?

That's good to hear. I'm about to inherit one from my wife - she's getting a new iPad Pro this fall, since it's become her "main computer." I'm intrigued, and hope I can get a lot of good use out of it before it goes unsupported. That's one of the biggest draws of iOS for me - while in many ways it's less open and free than MacOS, in so many other ways, because of that "walled garden" approach, it seems incredibly secure.
