ipad air - trying to send email, holding in outbox. Says recipient rejected by server

don't use the email function much, just to send match results (in a pdf) from a scoring app - this is the first match of the season so I don't know how long this has been an issue, it was all fine last year.
Tried sending email with attachment through yesterday - held in Outbox and says recipient rejected by server. Tried test email without attachment - same result.
Tried sending emails to same email addresses using my pc - all ok.

any help really appreciated - please keep any answers very simple as I only use the ipad for this scoring app, I don't furtle with any other areas.

Reboot the iPad Air, verify that the email account is configured correctly, verify the recipient's email address, and then try again.
