Why isn't the blue dot for email disappearing?

blue dot for email not disappearing

When I check my email on my iPad, the blue dot that indicates whether or not the email has been read, stays visible even when I have read the email. The funny thing is this happens only on my iPad and not on my iPhone. Is there a setting I need to address?

Is there a reason though why it is happening on my iPad and not my iPhone?

Sometimes iCloud email get hung up. there has to be one in the inbox some where.

I've noticed this on my iPad Air (first generation) as well. Do note that read/unread/deleted flags do not get pushed to iOS devices (only to OS X Mail), but in this case if you pull down to refresh, the iPhone correctly shows the email as read, whereas the iPad doesn't.
