Little Confused over 16GB or 64GB

Hi All,

I am buying my first iPad, that's why bit confused to buy Air 2 16GB or 64GB. I hardly play games and takes pictures, i am more into reading and browsing internet online.

Can anyone help me out?

You might could make do with the 16 gb then. But that's if you don't put a lot on it. Like apps, music, movies, photos, and etc. If you can afford the 64 gb, get it.

If that's the case, 16gb should be enough for you. I would always go for the extra storage.

I can easily make do with 16GB, but I also have a cellular model with unlimited data. I wouldn't really recommend 16GB to anyway, because if you do wind up running out of storage, you're screwed.

I've been using 16 GB cellular iPad 4 for months now and I've managed to get around just fine. I keep only a few dozen songs on iPad, I take pictures with iPhone, I only have a dozen apps on top of the pre-installed ones. However, just recently when I was trying to update Excel I got a message there is not enough space to do that, so I had to do some cleaning which resulted in 2 GB of free space. However, since all my stuff on iPad is about 40 GB I am now planning to go with 64 GB version of the iPad Air 2, and my suggestion to you is - be really, really sure 16 GB is enough. I thought so too, but installing just a few bigger apps (200-300 MB each) suddenly grew to a significant number. If you don't mind micro-managing then go for it, but if you can wait a little and spend more on 64 GB that will really take this bothersome problem off your head. Apple is really mean to keep 16 GB as the entry level on new hardware, where even light user can run through that 12 GB (space is formatted and you count out space taken by the system) very quickly and for the rest of your journey with the iPad it will be inconvenient.

Have to agree with everyone that the 16 GB will be your best option.

Keep in mind that the operating system uses around 8-9 gigs. So half your storage is gone. Right now you can purchase a 64 gig refurbished unit from Apple with same warrantee as new for $419. IMO that's the better purchase

As of February 9, the 16 gb iPad Air 2 should have a storage capacity of between 11.5 gb and 12.3 gb.

What does capacity say in Settings> General > about?
It takes about that much on my 64 gb 6s Plus. But we're talking about a 16 gb device. It's not the same.
Seems I recall 16 gb models getting about 11 gb available.

This might be a stupid question but I would have thought regardless of storage capacity- shouldn't the operating system take up the same amount of memory?

No. You'd think. There's a formula used. I'll look for it. But the 128 gb offers about 113 gb available capacity. So it takes around 15 gb right off the bat. 64 gb takes about 8. 16 gb takes about 5.

Don't recall for sure. I think my wife's 32 gb 5c started at around 28 gb. But that was 2 years ago. This may help you understand. It went, woosh, right over my head. LOL

2 years ago I was just fine with 16gb everything, hoeever my needs changed and now I need at least 64gbs to hold all my sata. My advice to you is that you may be good now but who knows if youll need storage in the future. Better be safe than sorry.
