Hi there.

I am looking for an alternative device in case my Windows laptop starts playing up again (read: BIOS issues).

Talking about the latest iOS 12.1 (features, etc.) and especially the Files app which platform/device do you think has a better, more open & bit flexible file management system: an iPad with iOS or a Google Chromebook with Chrome OS? (in comparison with the more robust & more flexible Windows File Manager system).

Many thanks.

I would definitely say the Chromebook. iOS, despite the Files app, gives you very little control of the files. Also, with most Chromebooks able to run Android, it may be possible to find an Android file app that will run on Chrome -- or even possibly through Linux, with some Chromebooks having some Linux support.

Chromebooks are pretty nice machines. The upside to most electronics is this: Most retailers give a 2 week window to return it. That should be more than enough time to decide if the device will suit you or not.
