New IPAD purchase

I have the oppurtunity to get a free IPAD from a contest at work. I have never owned one but have used them. I have wanted one for some time time, but didn't have the extra cash. I was told by a co worker to get it all. So I am looking at the new Ipad 64gb with cellular verizion. I doubt that I will use the cellular right away but a co worker said I should get it. He said you can't add it after the fact. I was also wondering is 64 gb overkill or since it is free I can't go wrong. THANKS for all input.
