Last night was the first night with my iPad. I used it til late (about 4am) then plugged it in while I slept for about 6 1/2 hours. The battery was at about 18% when I plugged it in and at 71% when I woke up. My iPhone 4 will go from almost dead to 100% in 2 hours (longer in the car). Now it was plugged into the charger that my phone is usually plugged into but I believe they are the same? Does this charging time seem right? I'll pay more attention to it over the next few days and have it connected to the charger that came with the pad.

There's you issue. They have differing amperage output ratings. The one supplied with the iPad is 10 watts.

Good info, thank you! I guess I'm going to need to get a charger for the car.

Mine still takes for ever to charge. Could be the fact I don't wanna wait for it to charge.

You shouldn't charge your device with different kind of cable like that. It might harm your battery.

This is simply not true. Both chargers (iPhone/iPod 5W charger and iPad 10W charger) are listed by Apple as compatible... meaning that they won't harm any of the devices. Simply put, the 10W charger will safely charge your iPhone/iPod faster. The 5W charger will safely charge your iPad, albeit at a snails pace.

Even worst, I used mine down to about 5% last night. Went to bed about 2:30 and didn't push the plug in all the way. Woke up to a dead battery so I'm charging it as much as I can in an hour. Want to use it for car shopping this morning. I wish it could charge as fast as the iPhone. I'll be lucky to have 18-20% when I leave shortly.

Another note on this, using the iPhone car charger for 5 hours with the iPad off resulted in it charging at 3.5% per hour.
