Does anybody know if either store will have them available on the 17th? I have a gift card with nearly $500 on it.

They probably will. The target around me had the iPad 2 on release but they only had 5. Call and ask. Better plan on being there nice and early though.

Apple didn't have preorders last year so who knows?

they probably will but maybe not on release day. I would call before going in though

last year Walmart had about 10 iPad 2's in stock and there was 1 person in line 30 minutes before they released; however they had wifi only models

I called one store and walked into another. They have no clue about Friday. Hopefully I will be able to get one as I am only interested in the 32 gb wifi model.
