Just an idea for the people that think there will be a 128 gb ipad3.

$399- 16gb iPad 2
$499- 32gb iPad 3
$599- 64gb iPad 3
$699-128gb iPad 3

Follows the iPhone in a way.

Why not? The iPad could use a 128G version, and if they can fit 64 in an iPhone, surely they can easily fit twice that in an iPad that's like 6 times the size.

And fact is, nobody knows one way or another until Tim Cook says so on Wednesday.

What happened to the 16GB IPad 3? I think that would be $499?

I'm skeptical that Apple can hold the price line on the 3 if it does contain the retina display and gorilla glass - or even w/o the gorilla. It's not like the 2 cost Apple $3 to manufacture as many seem to think. There is a healthy markup for sure, but if it cost such a small amount to make, then we'd have seen Androids at much lower price points than the iPad. That the Android can't take share from Apple on price implies that these things don't have vast margins in them.

I can't see the margin great enough in the 2 to make the 3 the same price points but with the improved display.

You can't ignore their buying power. Predictions are for 60m iPads sold this year. That can motivate suppliers to lower prices...

Apple is still bound by economics. 64GB of NAND Flash is relatively cheap in the quantities Apple buys (and pre-pays for). 128GB 24nm NAND Flash isn't so cheap. I don't think Apple will go to that density until the prices drop considerably.

They had the same buying power as the OG and 2. There is no doubt that the retina display has to cost more than the the OG, 2 display so either some other economies have to apply or the price will increase.
