One of the first things I notice is that I go to the unlock screen when I pick up my iPhone 6S. This never happened on iOS 9.x.x.
Is there any way to disable this so the phone waits for me to press the home button before "coming alive".

That is a new feature called raise to wake. You can disable it in settings in the display section.

But can someone other than you pick up the phone to wake? Where is privacy then ! What if you forget to disable it and leave it somewhere .

It doesn't unlock the phone. It just shows the lock screen .... same as pressing a button.

Yes, you don't have the hardware requirements for it. M9 co-processer is mandatory.

You can get the raise to wake if you're jailbroken but Apple won't actually put it in.
