rest finger to open does not work with iPhone 6?

I had to change this setting for mines to work on my iPhone 6s Plus.

I noticed after my phone sat for like an hour it made me press the home button to unlock. I went into that setting shown above and it was still turned on, IDK what that was about. I also don't care for the fact that I have to press the home button on my iPad Air just to get the code entry keypad, whereas before I could just open the lid and type in my passcode.

This is just useless. I see very little value if it does not work when the screen is locked.

Same as the volume buttons when the device is in standby, they don't do anything for ringer settings.

Turn on raise to wake then this setting has what you mean "value" other wise press home button to unlock.

Even if I have that setting turned off if I just press the home button one time and leave my finger there it unlocks after about a second. I have an iPhone 6. I'm not even sure what this setting does...
