Downloads for what? Free apps? You still have to enter your password for free app downloads. However, if it's already in your purchased list, and you download it, you're not required to enter your password for that.

There is an all new option to not require passwords for new free downloads. Supposed to be in the iTunes and App Store section of settings.

Sorry just new to iphone. Ive read that there will be an update wherein i no longer have to enter my password for free apps. Is the 8.3 not it?

I see the require password option for free apps on the settings menu but it is grayed out though.
Thanks!

There must be a way to set this without turning Restrictions on. But my post above with is the only way I can find (with TouchId on, at least).

I don't have touch ID. So I don't know if there's another way.
Update: You can turn restrictions off once you toggle the password thing off.

If you have TouchId enabled you don't seem to have that setting. However I purchased a free app and got a pop up asking me if I wanted it to save my password to use with future free apps. I think purchased another free app and didn't have to e get a password or use TouchId. The wording of that popup could be better, but it did work.
To be straight on this, if you have touch ID, you need not do anything except set your preference on the pop up. But like in my case with no touch ID, one must go to Settings >General >Restrictions and toggle it off, then turn restrictions back off. Am I right?

Sounds right, I guess. I don't want to try turning TouchId off to see if I get the option in Restrictions though.

It worked for me. I toggled the password off in restrictions. Then downloaded a free app with no password entry.

When I went into General>Restrictions on my iPhone5 I had to Enable Restrictions "I then had to enter a 4 digit passcode" to get in.
I then scrolled to bottom and turned off the password restriction for free app.
I then went back and tapped :Disable Restrictions " had to enter same 4 digit passcode"
This worked for me.
