New to Jailbreaking

Hi everyone, after the new Pangu jailbreak for ios 8, I am really considering jailbreaking my iphone for the first time. I had two quick questions;
1) Would you trust Pangu as a source of jailbreaking
2) and if I do decide to jailbreak, do I need to "Reset All Settings" or "Erase All Content And Settings" beforehand?

1) I have jail broken every iPhone that I've owned and Pangu is a great alternative to the other methods of old albeit they are taking awhile for a Mac Version.

2) I would recommend restoring to iOS 8.1 through iTunes after making a backup of course then jail break and restore the back up after.

Just remember to take some precaution and good luck.
