iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
So Apple used to be cool. Their stuff had a feel and look about it. ios7 is anything but cool. The icons are cheap, notes looks like an old fashion typewriter, the keyboard has a design that North Korea would be proud of. Don't get me stared on the glitches. Just try and change between camera and video mmmmmm nope won' t do it all the time. I know Apple will fix these bugs but please..... Bring back the cool aspect too !! I don't want my Gramma's phone.

Let me put my spin on your comments....:)
Apple is a very successful & profitable company, and a lot of people see it as "cool". Their "stuff" sell by the millions, and "has" a quality feel and professional look. iOS 7 is cool to a great deal of people, but not everyone. The icons are flat, the Notes app has discarded the lines in exchange for the look of blank sheet of paper, and the keyboard looks cleaner. Changing between the camera and video can be easily accomplished with a mere swipe of the finger. There are a few bugs that need to be worked out, but hey, doesn't all OSes have bugs here and there? Some people view iOS 7 as Apple's answer to complaints of a needed new look to its OS. Heck, even grandma likes it....;).... How's that?

And despite those who say it's mean/rude, sometimes the correct answer is "sorry, but that's how it works. If you don't like it, buy something else."

If Apple went back to ios6, I'd stop using my iPhone. It's bad enough I'm stuck with carrying a GS3 again for work but I use my iPhone whenever possible.
iOS6 looks dated. THAT to me is grandma's phone.

By the way, I checked his profile and he does have a really old phone. So I don't understand what he is trying to say by this, "I don't want my Gramma's phone." Just go buy yourself an iPhone that hasn't been updated to iOS 7 yet.

we live in a "need it now" society. the OS finally changed, he/she doesn't like it and they "need" it to change "now"
it's a vicious cycle and they more than likely need to seek professional help

Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
To be honest, I felt iOS 7 was designed to be a very attractive platform, and it has gone away with so much of the metallic and wooden look, and gone with a cooler, sleeker interface. However, I think many of problems come from the apps themselves , and some elements didn't look right on a tablet form factor. Things like folders are such wasters of screen real estate that you wondered how Ive came up with the idea...

Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
Considering how iOS 7 was revealed and demoed during the WWDC during the summer, and how there was a 18.2% adoption rate for iOS 7 during the first 24 hours (higher than iOS 6), I think it's pretty safe to say that quite a lot of people like iOS 7.

Not an answer to this thread, yet not a tolling post :) I have a question - is it safe/wise to update an iPhone 4S to iOS 7 or better wait till major bugs (what are they btw) are fixed? My wife has an iPhone 4S and it's a while she asks me to upgrade the OS, but I read there are some bugs in iOS 7 that may corrupt experience. Thanks
-
Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
OP - can't disagree more. I love iOS7. And I CAN'T WAIT for my gold iPhone 5S.
-
Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
The aesthetics of ios 7 are not an issue that I have with the OS. The stability of everything tied to the OS is. Typos are more abundant now, it's almost like the keys on the keyboard are shifted a few mm's, apps are constantly crashing, Apple apps, and the overall experience makes me feel like I'm carrying an android in my pocket. It's frustrating, if this is the experience I'm going to have I should at least have a 6 inch screen. Just saying.

The longer you wait the more the bugs will be worked out, if your wife is happy with what she has now then I wouldn't bother right away.

Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
I agree that iOS6 now looks dated... but I dont think iOS7 is the way of the future. Is this an interface and layout that can last 5 years? IMO, no. But its a good starting point to be tweaked
-
Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
iOS7 a mess?!? Are you freakin kidding me ?!? Nope, not in the least bit. I'm totally enjoying the whole OS experience and I welcome all the changes under the hood and cosmetically that Apple has put together with this update. Will I say it's perfect....no, with any new OS the little glitches have to be worked out little by little. I'm ok with that:)
-
Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
I find it funny that everyone here is so quick to bash android about being unstable, not user friendly etc.. But when Apple releases a iOS
that is clearly not ready the answer is... Apple with fix it give them time. Guys maybe they rushed out an os that was not ready to be released.
Any os that can cause the newest and best iphone to blue screen is not ready for releash. There is problems with iOS7, its not that big of a deal for most people,
but you cant deny that there are problems with the os. And the fact that they will not allow you to run iOS 6 is asinine.

Let's be real here. "Everyone here" is not quick to bash or even bash Android.
But when Apple releases a iOS
that is clearly not ready the answer is... Apple with fix it give them time.
That's true to a point, and that point is this: saying iOS 7 is "clearly not ready" is subjective at best. A lot of us who aren't having any issues with it clearly think that it is ready. Know what I mean?
Guys maybe they rushed out an os that was not ready to be released.
Some people will agree with this statement and some will not. It's all good.
Any os that can cause the newest and best iphone to blue screen is not ready for release.
Fortunately, me and a lot of others have yet to experience the blue screen you're referring to. Are we to say that it's not ready for release?
There is problems with iOS7, its not that big of a deal for most people,
but you cant deny that there are problems with the os.
the first part is clearly true, and regarding the second part, I will agree that there are people who are having problems with iOS 7 and there are people who aren't.
And the fact that they will not allow you to run iOS 6 is asinine.
You can indeed run iOS 6, but if you upgrade to iOS 7, you cannot revert back.

By the time Android has a release "ready" your device could very well be end of life.
Android is nowhere near stable no OS is 100% stable. There are no bigger problems with IOS than any other new release.
You got to let a new software into the wild. There is no way that Apple or any company can test a OS in every situation with every app.

Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
For the record, there are people out there who are having problems with iOS 7, and those people have every right to be upset about it, especially if the problems are causing major inconveniences. Having said that, there are those of us who aren't having any issues with it at all, and we will not stand idly by and be lumped together as if EVERYONE is having problems or are unhappy with iOS 7. I, and many others, cannot understand why various people are having issues with their devices. Many of us have a long history of going out of our way to help people fix the problems they're having to the best of our ability, and it's frustrating when we sometimes can't because we want their devices to work without issues like our do. With that in mind, if you have an iPhone and are having problems with it, tell us the problems you are having so that we can try our best to help you overcome them. As an ambassador and a moderator for this great site, I am here to help - not because I have to, but because I want to. Period. We, like you, are also members who, like you, have the ability to express our opinions. You will like some of our opinions and you will dislike some of our opinions and vice versa. Finally, I won't EVER tell you that the device you opted to use is a piece of crap, and you're a friggin' moron for buying it so please don't tell it to me or anyone else. Why you chose to like a particular device is YOUR business. If you feel the need to try a different device, that's YOUR business. If you feel that iOS 7 is not for you, okay, switch to a different one. That is not being disrespectful. It's reminding you that you have other options available to you that may be best suited for you. The iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac, MacBook and iOS are not for everybody, and you may be one of those people. So be it. Anyway, I didn't mean for this to turn into a rant...(laughing)....but I do feel better...:)

I don't believe Apple created the iOS 7 update based on what a persons perception of what "Cool" should be. As far as iOS goes it always was and always will be about the ease of use and functionality. From reading your post here, it appears to me that you are frustrated over the new look as well as a few bugs that you may or may not have experienced personally. There have been 2 updates so far to fix certain issues and I am sure there will be many more, knowing how Apple is quick to remedy any problems within their OS. I can't speak for you, but as far as I'm concerned I would much rather have a stable and reliable OS that gets updates when needed VS an OS that is designed based on looks alone and never receives timely updates to fix known problems.

Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
I really love iOS 7, especially with what developers are doing with it and just how beautiful and artistic apps can look, like Circa, App in the Air and Studio.
I'm just waiting for one more holdout to update for iOS 7 and I'll be 100% happy *coughTweetbotcough*

Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
Well, following IrishRose's post I must say I do like the new Android-esque style multitasking switcher that is on iOS 7 now. It is from the top of my head the most efficient way to kill task thus far on iOS. But besides that, I didn't see any implementations function-wise that made me feel things were made faster or more convenient.
Plus the search bar, the one where you flick the home screen down and search for stuff, doesn't have search on Google or the Web as an option, so to me if they did that, I would give iOS7 another plus point.
-
Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
@speedygi that feature was there in iOS 6. I can't imagine why they removed that feature, unless it was one of those 'patent' avoidance changes. I hope not - I really want to see it come back. I hate having to launch Safari to do it.

Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
A few thoughts:
1. Wired magazine actually featured this search for app function in their pages, and in my mind, I thought wow they took the old search bar and made it accessible anywhere on the home screen. I thought wonderful, but little did I know Wired only made clear apps and contacts were the ones you could search for, among other things but not including search on Google or the web. It was misleading journalism.
2. It was low hanging fruit , and I thought if they could do it in iOS 6 I didn't see why they couldn't do it in 7. It felt a little suspect to me, like Ive purposely didn't want the feature put there.

Couldn't disagree more, I love the aesthetics of iOS 7, the snappiness, polished feel and the new features.
There used to be a time when I would vehemently agree with you but that was during my dark time with Android LOL.

Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
I agree with you! The interface isn't great. It does look very flat. -Kind of like a "50 look". The music player has changed for the worse. Battery life has gone down also. However, I am talking about the interface look and not of the functionality. I don't care if 30 Million viewers disagree or whether or not Apple will make changes> Not everyone has to agree because the majority does. It is called "Freedom of Expression" and it is a wonderful thing! Yes, I made a similar statement about the interface in my first own statement! Duplication? Sure, why not, you don't have to read it!!

I disagree with your assessment of the look... but you’re right... complain away if it helps you cope...
However, your comment about battery life is absolutely wrong. I’m sitting on 76% battery left after 14:37 hours of standby... and 5:52 hours of use. That is pretty amazing...

Agreed. I used and iOS 6 recently and NO, it was great in its day, but that day has since gone. With its bugs and glitches, I would take iOS 7 any day. I am going to go out on a limb and say that I think that the majority (not all) of people that seem to hate iOS 7, donīt really use it.

Yup. The battery life is dismal.

The big thing is wifi or a good signal. I always get around a day on weekends. During the week I've learned that browsing while on the Metro is hard on it. So during the week I get 14-18 hours or so.
I've got four email accounts and two are push. Nothing is turned off except for wifi when I'm out of the house, leaving it on drains the battery from constant searching. Brightness is around 30%.

Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
While I do not like or use iOS 7, I would not consider it a "mess". Overdone, yes!
I am not a fan of Android, but if Google made their next update with a similar UI as their Search app for iOS, I would consider buying one. It's a plain, subtle, pleasing UI. Same as their web services, flat grays with shadows.

Re: iOS 7 , who designed this mess?
Wait what is wrong with the iOS 7 ? To me, it's a breathe of fresh air on the design aspects and definitely added some features that improved the iOS experience. Sure not a lot of people like this change and trust me, it's a hate it or love it kind of thing. As a designer, Sir Jony Ives is an inspiration and does an awesome job. I think what he did here, is art.
That's IMO.
